Spread Of Islam And Christianity - With A Free Essay Review

The Spread of Islam and Christianity

Within the time period c. 600 CE to 1250CE and 1st century to 1000CE Islam and Christianity were spread. The two religions spread socially and economically similar but politically different. While both Islam and Christianity were spread Christianity had more governments in control than Islam.

Christianity and Islam’s spread were socially similar. Both Islam and Christianity had an important people in a high class to spread the religions. Christianity had Constantine to spread the religion while Islam had the Prophet and the caliphates to spread the religion. This was important because the people who spread the religions were an important figure for the religion. Both religions were also socially similar in another way. In these two religions the people practicing the religions migrated to spread their beliefs to other regions. Muslims migrated to Medina to spread the word of their god in the other region of Arabia Peninsula while Christians migrated to Constantinople to find Constantine to help spread Christianity. One reason for this type of similarity was that the people were often taken out of the place they were in before because they weren’t pleased with the religion. Being kicked out allowed them to migrate and inform others of there religion. With people being taken out of there place it was expected from them to inform others of the religion and the spread of their religion was highly expected.

The spread of Christianity and Islam was economically similar. In both Islam and Christianity trade was common and that had a large impact on the spread of the religions. Trade was important because many things were exchanged and one of these things was religion. Merchants were able to socialize with people and were able to know the different type of religions. Trade was very important because not only were goodies spread but ideas of religions were spread. Both Islam and Christianity had craftwork that was very significant in the spread of these religions. In Islam craftwork such as the name of their god, Allah, in Arabic calligraphy was very important. In Christianity the craftwork of a cross was significant. One reason for this similarity was that historically craftwork is significant in these religions. The spread of Islam and Christianity had craftwork as a main impact.

Politically speaking, the spread of Islam differed from the spread of Christianity. Christianity had a government organization involved in the spread of the religion while Islam didn’t have a government organization involved in the spread of the religion. Christianity had Constantine, a government official, involved in the spread of Christianity. Constantine made Christianity legal after many other governments punished those who believed in Christianity. Unlike Christianity, Islam only had a prophet and caliphates that were not in any way involved with any government organization. Christianity emperors prohibited many things unlike Islam. In Christianity the emperors prohibited observance of pagan cults. Christianity also made cultural allegiance. This type of allegiance was seen as a political attribute. These political figures provided financial sponsorship for rituals, festivals, and pagan activities.

Within the time period c. 600 CE to 1250CE and 1st century to 1000CE Islam and Christianity were spread. The two religions spread socially and economically similar but politically different.

ESSAY REVIEW

I think the biggest problem here is the way you conceive your task when writing your essay. You want to compare the ways in which two different religions spread.

If you set up your essay as an attempt to answer a specific question, then the essay as a whole should appear more coherent. The specific question in this case is "How were religions able to expand their influence across different geographical regions?" Although that is not the question that you set out to answer in the present essay, a good part of the answer to the question is fortunately already there. The fact that Christianity and Islam were both able to spread across different regions of the globe is interesting. It's worth exploring how that happened, and an essay that answers that question is worth writing. Your essay only answers that question indirectly because your focus is on comparing the ways in which the two religions you consider spread across the globe. I suggest focusing on the question itself (how could it happen) and using the comparison as part of the answer to that question.

Best, EJ.

P.S. "there" is different from "their" and the difference is worth noting.

The definition of peace means being free from disturbance. From a biblical perspective, the absence of conflict is only the beginning of peace. True peace includes personal wholeness, righteousness, political justice, and prosperity for all creation. That’s the way God intended things to be when he created his garden, his paradise. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives.” (John 14:27) The Islamic perspective is as well about peace and knowledge and true Muslims are peace-loving people. Peace is promoted as Allah (S.W.T) says in the Quran "God does not forbid you to be kind and equitable to those who have neither fought against your faith nor driven you out of your homes.
